Cutting the Fat Off the Portfolio

Two weeks from now, I will be looking at selling most of my shares of SunTrust so I can rebalance my portfolio correctly. I currently have about 65% of my individual stock portfolio with SunTrust because I had my 401(k) with them. I will sell about $1,100 worth of shares so I can redistribute them in my portfolio.

This is something people usually do either once or twice per year. I usually do it once a year in my stock portfolio and twice per year in my mutual fund portfolio. The reason why you trim your investments is to achieve the best possible return for the following year. You usually sell the shares that have increased in value and trade them for the shares that went down (but they still have to be viable stocks. (No crap stocks!) You do it in every portfolio.

You should always research your investments before you go into it.All About the P/E Ratio
